The Internet is evolving and the technology keeps getting better, there are better structures than what was available towards the end of the last century. The Internet (world wide Web) started off with the read-only web, called Web 1.0, and it is a mainly a place where business enterprises get to showcase their information and users can only search for them and read the information. This evolved into Web 2. 0 which centers on user-generated content, ease of use, participatory culture and interoperability for end users.
Web 2.0 is participatory, as users get to interact with the Web to get more out of the internet. This leads to users having to give out their data to be able to get maximum value out of the Internet. Data gotten is life, it can be used in calculating, reasoning, or planning. Anyone or a group with data stay in control, it can be sold to a third party or used to generate more revenue for themselves. There have been talks on how platforms have been collecting data and using it without permission or knowledge of users, these platforms are organizations making more from using data gotten off data of users.
There are 3 major concerns about Web 2.0 as far as data is concerned. They are: Centralization, Privacy & Security and Scalability.
Centralization: Social media companies and large technology are having a big say on users’ data, they dominate the market while holding vast amounts of personal data on users. This is not supposed to be so, it is simply to much power in the hands of a particular set of people.
Privacy & Security: Data are been collected and captured by data centers, the centralization has made it easy for cyber hackers to target and attack them. Once they can breach the security of these data centers, data of users can be stolen and used. Which means little or no privacy at all.
Scalability: There are billions of connected devices worldwide, which means there are loads of data out there. It is estimated that it will hit 30 billion devices in a few years, which means there will be a need for a more scalable next generation Web.
Introducing PlatON Network.
PlatON network is combining blockchain and privacy-preserving computation technologies, it is building a decentralized and collaborative AI network and global brain to drive the democratization of AI for safe artificial general intelligence.
The project noticed the need for Web 3,which simply means Web 2 on the blockchain, for the possibility of breaking centralization and giving every user a chance to be in charge of their data through decentralisation. The blockchain plays a big part in this. Blockchain consensus algorithms can help subjects in decentralized AI systems collaborate to accomplish tasks. For example, in the field of intelligent transportation, AI is the “brain” behind countless autonomous vehicles, and these autonomous vehicles need to cooperate with each other trustfully to accomplish a common goal.
Blockchain can make AI more coherent and easy to understand, and as all data, variables and processes used in AI training decisions will have an untamperable record, they can be tracked and audited.
Combining blockchain and privacy-preserving computation technologies, PlatON is building a decentralized and collaborative AI network and global brain to drive the democratization of AI for safe artificial general intelligence. To build the infrastructure needed for autonomous AI agents and their collaboration, to facilitate the emergence and evolution of advanced AI, and to explore the path to general AI. Extend the power of AI to anyone who requires it through our decentralized network and open-source software tools to make the best AI technology accessible for the masses.
