US Justice Department to Prosecute Banks and Crypto Exchanges that Helped Russians Hide their Assets
Golden Finance reports that, according to the latest news, a senior US Justice Department official says it will investigate and prosecute individuals and financial institutions, including cryptocurrency exchanges, that helped Russians hide their assets from sanctions. According to the official, a new working group of prosecutors, agents, analysts and interpreters from the Department of Justice has been set up to conduct these investigations. The official said the types of assets that could be frozen or seized include real estate, stocks, bank accounts, yachts, aircraft, jewellery and artwork. The move comes amid growing concern among US lawmakers and others that individuals and entities in Russia can use cryptocurrencies to avoid economic sanctions. (CoinDesk)
