August Sander Photography NFT series delisted due to copyright dispute, publisher to sue

Golden Finance news, August Sander’s great-grandson Julian Sander wants to bring his great-grandfather’s iconic photos to the blockchain through OpenSea, a series that will constitute a master archive of 10,700 photos of the iconic photographer, which will be given away for free on NFT, with users paying only a gas fee. Julian’s goal is to “to preserve the legacy of August Sander on the blockchain”. The project, launched on 10 February and run by the August Sander family estate led by Julian, saw over 400 ETH traded in OpenSea’s secondary sale within a few weeks. August’s grandson Gerd (Julian’s father) had sold the photos as a collection to SK Stiftung Kultur, who retained the rights until 2034 and sent a take-down notice to OpenSea, which issued a statement and suspended the sale on 7 March. Julian says the statement is invalid and will certainly go to court to find out who the real owner of these NFT rights is. August Sander was a German portrait photographer born in 1876 who has been described as “the most important German portrait photographer of the early 20th century”. (nftevening)
