Russian Court Recognises Cryptocurrency could be a Means of Payment

Golden Finance reports that two Russian citizens have been sentenced to nine and seven years in prison under a strict regime for extorting 5 million roubles (nearly $90,000) in cash and 55 million roubles (nearly $1 million) in digital assets from another man. During the trial, the St. Petersburg City Court recognised cryptocurrency as a means of payment, according to Russian RBC. Prosecutors first considered the ruling because the Moscow government has yet to determine the legal status of Bitcoin, among other things.
