July 25 (Xinhua) — At present, digital RMB is still in the pilot stage and its expanded use faces some challenges. First, platforms such as Alipay and WeChat Pay are widely used in urban and rural areas and have a great influence overseas, which has formed a network effect, and it will take a longer time to change the payment habits and path dependence of enterprises and individuals. Secondly, there are still few subjects using digital RMB, the coverage of application scenarios is narrow, there is no specific rigid demand that can only use digital RMB yet, and increasing the transaction scale still needs a lot of innovation in application scenarios. Finally, a mature digital RMB business model has not yet been formed. Commercial banks do not charge transaction fees for operating digital RMB and lack the necessary incentive mechanisms, making it difficult to increase investment to promote product development, marketing and customer maintenance based on digital RMB.
