IBM and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have partnered to develop CO2NNEX, a solution for tracking CO2 capture and reuse using blockchain technology, with Mitsubishi responsible for the physical infrastructure to capture CO2 and IBM responsible for the digital platform to track it, according to LedgerInsights. According to Nikkei News, the two companies plan to create a carbon trading platform, which will be piloted starting in 2022. By using blockchain, CO2NNEX can track the collection and distribution of CO2, increasing transparency. It can also provide carbon neutral support to companies by accessing data on CO2 capture and usage rates. In addition, complete visualization of the carbon supply chain could enhance its investment potential.
