According to IT House on May 1, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed hardware modules mounted on the MetaQuest2 headset that allow users to experience the tactile sensations of drinking, brushing, and kissing in VR. The device works by targeting ultrasonic pulses in and around the user’s mouth with a thin, lightweight ultrasonic transducer in the added module, which levitates and moves tiny particles by bombarding them with high-energy ultrasonic pulses.
