PrivacyIN’s First ZK Camp to Host Graduation Exhibition

PrivacyIN’s first ZK Camp to host graduation exhibition

PrivacyIN (Privacy Institution), founded by the LatticeX Foundation, strives to build an open community for preaching and studying cryptography and privacy-preserving technologies. The institution works with top scholars and developers who focus on privacy-preserving technology to promote the innovation and implementation of zero-knowledge proof (ZKP), multi-party computation, and fully homomorphic cryptography in the field of Web3.

To enable the innovation and implementation of privacy preservation in next-generation multi-party computation scenarios, PrivacyIN plans to offer technical training, build a research community, and incubate innovative projects, focusing on modern cryptography technology. It aims to make it easier for developers to apply theoretical protocols, improve the capacity for innovative engineering among cryptographic researchers, and jointly maintain an open community for cryptography and privacy-preserving technologies.

Putting theories in practice: PrivacyIN’s ZK Camp benefits over 100 participants

Kicking off on July 9, PrivacyIN’s first ZK camp has come to an end. Over the past month, the camp offered intensive and practical courses, which have been well-received by cryptography enthusiasts.

In the first and second weeks, Yupeng Zhang, an assistant professor in the computer science and engineering department at Texas A&M University, offered vivid illustrations of the basic theories concerning ZKP cryptography and provided an overview of the current research progress. Together with students, Zhang explored the classic protocols of zkSNARKs (Groth16, Plonk and Stark) and demonstrated the basic principles of protocol implementation in simple terms.

During the third week, Siyuan Han from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology focused on practice sessions and introduced participants to the application of ZKP circuits, covering an overview of layer-2 circuit development, zk-Ethereum Virtual Machine studies, and the analysis of ZK classic circuit. Han presented a large number of practical cases, which generated heated discussions among participants.

In the last week, Kevin, a senior cryptography engineer, focused on the practical application of circuits. He showed participants how Snarkjs+Circom can be used to build a simple application of ZKP neural network prediction and how it can be published on a blockchain. The specific process spans parameter constructions, circuit design, zkey generation, contract verification, transaction and validation, etc. Such practices significantly improved the participants’ understanding of circuit application and honed their practical skillset.

It is noteworthy that many of the participants are developers from big-name companies, such as Google, TikTok and Twitter, and students from top universities, such as Stanford University, Tokyo University and Tsinghua University. In addition, hundreds of participants took the courses online. They learned and practiced together with their peers offline and also submitted excellent assignments. The intensive, practical courses offered by PrivacyIN set off a worldwide boom in learning cryptography.
