Barclays FinTech Centre Rise holds CBDC hackathon

Golden Finance reports that Rise, Barclays’ fintech hub, held a two-day CBDC hackathon with nine teams attempting six key challenges. The European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of England (BoE) had dedicated working groups to explore the opportunities and risks involved, and drafted and published a number of design options. The hackathon required participants to connect to a simulation of Barclays’ central bank, payment interface providers (PIPs), commercial banks and other ecosystem services. The simulation was based on a platform model provided by the Bank of England (BoE) for UK retail CBDCs. The teams represent a range of participants including IBM, Lloyds Banking Group, Mastercard, Industria, REGnosys, Rethink Ledgers, UST, SDK.finance and Barclays (Barclays was not eligible for a place). These teams use a variety of technologies to bring their solutions to life, such as Corda, Ethereum, Java, Digital Asset Modeling Language (DAML) and others. (finextra)
