Hermes sues “MetaBirkins” NFT for alleged trademark infringement

Golden Finance reports that international luxury brand Hermès International has filed a lawsuit in New York federal court claiming that a digital artist has infringed on its trademark by selling the “MetaBirkins” NFT. According to Hermès, the digital artist, named Mason Rothschild, used the MetaBirkins name to release a digital NFT of Hermès’ high-end Birkin handbag, which would have caused consumer confusion. But Mason Rothschild turned out that his use of the trademark was protected by the First Amendment, and that the MetaBirkins NFT was aimed at Birkin furs, not leather handbags, and was meant to be a critique of animal cruelty, consumerism and artistic values. El Salvador’s Central Bank Approves Qredo as Local Bitcoin Service Provider

According to an official announcement, digital asset management platform Qredo announced that it has been approved as a Bitcoin service provider by the Central Bank of El Salvador (BCR). With this, Qredo becomes the first and only decentralized custodian technology provider operating in El Salvador. The authorization from the Central Bank of El Salvador means that Qredo is now registered to provide Bitcoin custody, digital asset trading, wallet and payment services in the country.
